Mission
Drama with a purpose

Anna Farthing is a writer, director and producer of drama for live and recorded media. She works to commission for broadcast, commercial, educational, heritage and social enterprises. Anna is a director of the International Museum Theatre Alliance a founder of the Joy of 8mm film scheme a founding partner of Harvest Films Ltd and director of Harvest Heritage, Arts and Media.

Previous clients include The National Theatre, English Heritage, BBC, Tourism Taskforce, Somerfield, Vodafone, Hewlett Packard, National Museums Liverpool, GEM, MLA, Creative Partnerships Cumbria, and the Universities of Bristol, the West of England, Bath Spa, Manchester, Warwick and Aberystwyth.

Anna's practice based PhD research explores the potential of participatory drama and digital media for difficult and sensitive histories. Funded by the AHRC it is a collaboration between The British Empire and Commonwealth Museum and Manchester University's Centre for Applied Theatre Research.

The British Empire and Commonwealth Museum and The Understanding Slavery Initiative.

Produced Voices of the Transatlantic Slave Trade DVD and teachers pack, and a series of participatory drama and media workshops for education, on gallery and outreach. An extract of the DVD can be viewed on the Understanding Slavery site.

Facilitated digital story making with young people using archives from Images of Empire and Bristol City Archives.
